Xanthos is known as the largest and most important city of Lycia. Ancient sources describe its history in detail, particularly its resistance during sieges.
Pillar tombs, rock tombs, a theatre and the agora can be seen. Original reliefs from monuments such as the Harpy Tomb and the Nereid Monument were removed abroad in the 19th century; casts stand on site.
Together with nearby Letoon, Xanthos is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It belongs to Kaş district and is reached by car.
