Alanya
A 13th-century Seljuk fortress with 6.5 km of walls around the peninsula, reached by road or cable car.
Kaleiçi is the walled historic centre of Antalya. Narrow lanes, Ottoman houses with overhanging bays, a Roman-era harbour and buildings from many periods sit within the same fabric.
The Fluted Minaret, Hıdırlık Tower, the Clock Tower and Hadrian's Gate stand inside the quarter or right on its edge. Most of the restored mansions now serve as boutique hotels, cafés and galleries.
A walk naturally starts at Hadrian's Gate and ends at the old harbour. The streets are cobbled and sloping in places, so comfortable shoes help. Walking the quarter is free.
