Alanya

The Red Tower is an octagonal Seljuk tower built in 1226 to guard the harbour of Alanya. It takes its name from the red brick used in its construction and is regarded as the city's emblem.
The five-storey building has a cistern at its centre that collected rainwater. From the upper floor the harbour, the shipyard and the town come into view.
The Seljuk shipyard next to the tower also survives; together they show the maritime infrastructure of the period. Standing by the harbour, it is reached on foot.
