Alanya
A 13th-century Seljuk fortress with 6.5 km of walls around the peninsula, reached by road or cable car.
Hadrian's Gate is a monumental three-arched gateway built to mark Emperor Hadrian's visit to Antalya in AD 130. Constructed in white marble, the coffered decoration on the underside of the arches survives largely intact.
The towers flanking the gate date from different periods, showing that the structure stayed in use across centuries. Ruts left by cart wheels are still visible in the ancient paving below.
It is the best known entrance to Kaleiçi and forms the natural start of a walk. Visiting is free, and the surrounding area is a landscaped pedestrian zone.
