Patara held the assembly building of the Lycian League, a structure regarded as significant in the history of regional representation. Excavation and restoration work has raised the building again.
The city also contains a monumental triumphal arch, a theatre, the main street, baths and the remains of a lighthouse — considered one of the oldest known from antiquity.
The city and Patara Beach lie within the same protected area and can be visited on a single ticket. The site is wide and unshaded; water and a hat are needed.
